Beth Hudson lives in Auckland, New Zealand. She has always been interested in art but it wasn't until her first serious professional encounter with a dying artist that she personally decided to paint. She has since completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at Whitecliffe College of Art and Design and is planning to do a Masters degree in 2003.
Originally from apartheid South Africa, emigrant to the Antipodes, she is keenly aware of post-colonial issues, feminism and the ongoing struggle of marginalised people.
Beth is a contemporary figurative painter whose interests are, primarily, women: their lives, relationships and struggles. Her recent series, The "Particular Self", looks at convent life and sexual difference. This series was inspired by the recent scandal involving sexual abuse and the catholic clergy.
She is passionate about paint, cats, books, wine and women . . .
